Protect your Paint!

Everyone loves a gleaming car that looks like you just drove it off the showroom floor. Before ceramics, you had to wash, wax, and buff your car several times a month to maintain that new car shine. By protecting your paint job with a professional ceramic coating, your prized driving machine can always look super shiny!

Modern systems are clear, multi-layer, tiny-particle nano-coatings that preserve and protect your paint job. Most manufacturers use formulations with a high percentage of silica dioxide to form a thin protective layer over your paint and clearcoat. This process seals the pores in the paint making the surface hydrophobic (water-repellent) and resistant to ultraviolet rays (UV), scratches, chemicals, heat, and even graffiti. We can also perform paint correction prior to application of the protective layer to ensure your car shines like new.

Ceramic coatings provide the best level of paint protection available on the market today. These coatings are far superior to waxes, polymers, or other car care products available to the general public. Because of the specialized application process, application should only be performed by shops that have been trained and certified by the manufacturer.

Benefits of Ceramic Coatings
  • Hydrophobic
  • Repels Mud and Dirt
  • Improved Durability
  • Protects from UV Damage, Oxidation and Rust
  • Can Protect Windshield, Rims/Wheels, and Plastic Trim
  • Anti-Static Properties to Repel Dust
  • Can also be applied to Boats, ATVs, Motorcycles, Motorhomes, and other vehicles

How Does It Work?
Automotive ceramic coatings are products that adhere to and penetrate the surface of your vehicle's factory paint and clearcoat. These surfaces are susceptible to damage by ultraviolet radiation (UV rays), oxidation, rust, salt applied to the roadways, and other environmental contaminants. Silica-based systems work by filling microscopic holes called pores in the surface of the paint and clearcoat. The main chemical compound in most professional products is silica dioxide. Once cured, this compound essentially forms a thin layer of glass over the surface of your vehicle. Following application, the surface of your vehicle is much smoother and contaminants are less able to penetrate and cause damage. Most commercial compounds are rated as 9H hardness on the Paint Protection Scale. You should not, however, confuse this with a rating of 9 on the Mohs Scale of Hardness, which rates the hardness of materials. The Paint Protection Scale is more similar to the hardness scale of pencil leads. Be wary of manufacturers that claim a hardness greater than 9H. The scale doesn't go any higher than 9H, so those claims are nothing but a sales pitch and are complete BS.

Maximizing the Life of Your Ceramic Coating

Curing Time - With proper care, your vehicle can stay looking showroom-new for years. After application, the new surface will require up to 2-3 weeks to fully cure to your paint and clearcoat. During this time, you should take special care of your vehicle's new coating. You should avoid parking under trees or power lines and driving on freshly paved roads during this time, Tree sap, bird droppings, and tar or asphalt should be removed immediately and not allowed to bake in the hot sun. Be careful when removing these materials, as the coating is still soft. Be extra gentle when working to remove the contaminants.

Wash Your Vehicle Every Two Weeks - You should wash your car regularly using techniques and detergents recommended by the manufacturer Once curing is complete, the washing process should require much less effort than before. However, you should not wash your car in the direct sunlight. Sunlight creates heat, which is the enemy of any car wash because it creates water spots. The surface of your vehicle should be cool to the touch before you wash it. Try to wash your car in the early morning or late evening hours when the sun is at its lowest in the sky.

Use the Two-Bucket Method to wash your car to reduce the amount of abrasive contaminants on your wash mitt. Use one bucket to soak your wash mitt and apply the detergent. A second bucket should be filled with clean water and used to remove grit and debris from your wash mitt between each application of detergent. The rinse bucket should have a grit guard to reduce the amount of grit transferred to your wash mitt during rinsing.

Always use a separate set of buckets and wash mitts when cleaning rims and wheels. Brake dust is essentially microscopic bits of metal which can grind away your shiny new surface. It's like washing your car with sandpaper, and who in their right mind would do that?

Popular Misconceptions
  • They are not "Scratch-Proof" - Small scratches can be resisted by the coating, but the surface is still susceptible to rock chips, intentional scratches/keying, and surface dents.
  • Maintenance is still required - The coating will cut down on the amount of washing, but it won't completely eliminate it. Washing your car will now be much easier, and you won't need to apply any wax or other material every few weeks. This saves a lot of money over the course of the coating's lifetime.
  • They are not Permanent - The nano-coating is semi-permanent and should last for several years. It cures and bonds to the surface and creates a hard, shiny sacrificial layer. You don't have to reapply the product every few washes like you do with waxes or polymers.
  • They are easy to apply - Proper application requires training, the right equipment, and attention to detail. The finish is also only as good as the surface underneath. It's crucial to perform paint correction and restoration before the coating is applied, as any imperfections in the surface will be permanently locked in. These systems should only be applied by professionals that have been trained and certified by the manufacturer to ensure the highest quality finish.
